Become a wrap star with these strand-saving microfiber hair towels. Bow Hair Band
You might think you've nailed your wash day routine, but it could be that you're missing a vital, yet simple, step by switching out your classic cotton towel for a microfiber version. Made from softer materials that are more absorbent, microfiber towels not only cut your drying time down, but also prevent compromising the health of your hair.
'The lightweight, moisture-wicking fabric of microfiber creates less friction,' says board-certified trichologist and founder of haircare brand Act+Acre, Helen Reavey. 'This helps eliminate breakage while the hair is wet (and at its weakest) and helps lessen frizz.' All hair types will benefit from this switch up, says Helen, but it's especially important for curly hair. 'After a shower, your hair texture shifts as hydrogen bonds break due to water exposure. Those bonds are key in creating your hair "shape", and influence curl patterns, general body... using a microfiber towel will hugely lessen that breakage, leaving you with stronger, frizz-free hair strands.' Using a microfiber towel will also ensure a more balanced scalp, meaning healthier hair from root to tip, adds Reavey.
With most microfiber towel options shaped to make it easy to create a snug cocoon-like turban, you'll also avoid the temptation to 'scrub' at the hair to dry it, as it's wrapped tightly enough to do the work for you.
We've rounded up the best options to hang on your towel rail pronto...
This chic, waffle knit microfiber towel can cut your drying time by 50%, whilst preventing frizz and protecting your hair shape. An elongated shape leaves plenty of room for long hair.
This eco-friendly, biodegradable towel (made from organic cotton and bamboo) has a button for easy fastening and waterproof pouch so you can travel with your new must-have hair accessory.
This perky printed option is designed with masking in mind - handily preventing any product from transferring to your pillowcase when indulging in an overnight hair mask. Snug but comfortable, it shouldn't shift all night, and will prevent friction from damaging hair too.
Created for the girls (and guys!) with the curls, this towel is made from cotton and bamboo and with a bit of stretch to accommodate even the longest of manes. Lower your wet hair tips first onto the open towel, then gently wrap to encourage your curls to form - shiny, softly and breakage free - as they dry.
With a little elasticated strap to secure the towel, this aesthetically pleasing design is perfect if you find the button/popper styles a little fiddly. The material is lightweight but does a quick job of gently absorbing excess water from your hair.
